Cute Korean Cushion!

I'm back with new cuteness report.

As you might know already, Korean has cutest and most attractive make up mass. In the last few months, some Korean brand has collaborated with world famous character for limited edition product. My attention draw the most to cushions.

You might already know and have these cushions yourself, but for those who doesn't and haven't heard about it, cushion is new base product in compact. Most of them are bb cream (and the complex variant), some are blush and others are highlighters. The idea is to use the product easier using cushion puff, no messy finger nor brush needed. With compact, user doesn't need separated mirror either. Convenient.

Back before, yes Etude has collaborated with Minnie mouse too for their Cushion, and yes they're cute too. But it was long before other brands followed their idea.

First one that i noticed was Garfield. It might not drawing very much attention, but still.. Apieu doing a cute job here. Their cushion said to be great, for both oily and dry skin type. No wonder they got great success, and the price is kinda low too.

.. But still, they continue the success with Doraemon edition. Another cat, yes! Doraemon was my first character-love back in my childhood. I think most from my generations are. This future cat is loving and has futuristic product we can't even dream of.

images from harlboor.com
Is it enough? Noooooo.. They made improvement to the cute Doraemon too! The newest is Christmas Doraemon!

And soon, there's flood of cute cushions in market.. take Missha who has fond to wonderful female character out there. Betty Boop is cute and sexy, but Wonder Woman has my heart.

While Tony Moly going for cute little boy character : Astro Boy!

images taken from shopandbox.com

And Skinfood bring you back to vintage but will always love character : Snoopy and the Gang! Whoaa.. Even the cushion pad is printed too!

images taken from testerkorea.com

But don't you think we're lack of new, world worth hype character here?

Don't worry, Peripera has Elsa from Frozen to cushion world too!

images taken from testerkorea.com, click to enlarge.

Of course there's still many of them i can't mention here, but you've got the idea.

With this cute addition, do you convinced to hoard some more?

As for my self, yes, i've got one and maybe two of them *sigh*

More about my new cushion soon!

Hope you enjoy my cuteness report today :)

I love Casual Vacancy! Walaupun Casual Vacancy *oke* terus terang saja sulit dilihat poin ceritanya, tapi entah kenapa membawa daya tarik tersendiri.

Jujur ketika pertama tau bahwa JK Rowling menulis serial detektif dengan nama lain, aku underestimate banget. Ngga tertarik pokoknya!

Trus pendapatku gimana? Cuckoo's Calling bagus, tapi ngga gimana banget. Silkworm awal dan pertengahan biasa saja, tapi endingnya aku sukaaaa! Mana lanjutannya? Mana???

Akhirnya setelah penantian yang singkat (soalnya baca Silkworm nya telat banget) muncullah Career of Evil (aku translate seenaknya sebagai Karir Sang Iblis, entah nanti judul bahasa indonesia nya apa). Tapi belum ada versi Indonesianya *iyalah*. Jadi gimana? Nekat aja baca versi aslinya? Dengan bahasa inggris seadanya, biasanya aku cuma baca novel young-adult yang ngga pake istilah aneh-aneh tapi aku sukaa~ Lah ini novel detektif ntar sok baca tapi ngga ngerti gimana? #parno #lebay

Untungnya ngga dong. Apalagi kalau sudah baca seri sebelumnya, udah ngerti lah gaya bahasanya. Tapi disini aku tetep berhati-hati membaca tiap kalimat, literally sentence-by-sentence, karena ngga mau kelewatan apapun. Nama pun novel detektif ya, bikin penasaran ikutan nebak pelakunya hehe..

Salah satunya bilang "hope you enjoy the climax". Wow! Ada apakah di klimaks cerita? Apakah aku langsung kebut baca bukunya? Ngga. Malah makin takut kelewat sesuatu.

*end of spoiler*

Semoga ngga lama deh.

Semoga juga versi indonesia nya segera terbit ^^

cheers,

Utama Spice Lavender Body Oil

Following my previous post about Body Oil, here’s my review for Utama Spice Lavender Body Oil.

Being in Indonesia, specially in Bali, Utama Spice’s products are easy to get. Not only their own store, Guardian and Century Pharmacy also has a handful of Utama Spice’s product. Their Body Oils are retailed for around IDR 101,000 but with member card, you can get it somewhat cheaper.

Utama Spice’s Body Oil packaged nicely in purple glass bottle, securing product inside from light. But actually for Body Oil, plastic bottle is fine enough.

The product supposed to be pouring from this normal size hole, but mine is hardly come out. I’ve tried to cut the bottom part of those plastic but nothing changed. Oh well. I want the body shop’s plastic bottle please! Nope, I don’t really want comparing but this problem aching my heart. As per now on, I depotted the Lavender Body Oil to my old Body Shop plastic bottle. Solved!

Product inside is simply made of Soja (Soy) Oil, Coconut Oil and Lavender Essential Oil. After doing further research about body oil, I was a little bit regretting my purchase because Coconut Oil (organic, not food grade) and Soja Oil are cheap and easy to find I could made it myself. However, the Lavender smells good and relaxing. A friend of mine complement saying that she thought I was just back from spa ritual because I smell so great.

It might unable to seen on pict, but the texture is a bit thick. It supposed to be, because even Soja Oil is light and easy to absorb, Coconut oil doing a bigger impact and thickened it. However, with some mix with water during application, it’s still easy to spread and absorb.

I use it on my body and hair. Body oil for obvious reason, and because as far as I know, coconut oil is widely used for hair oil (please read further for each ingredient below). But please just use a little amount of this for your hair. The thick texture would make hair looks greasy, so less is enough.

Soja Oil benefit :
  • High in natural source lecithin, sterolin and vitamin E
  • Feel light on skin
  • Easy to absorb
  • Leave skin smooth
  • Odorless
  • Low cost

Coconut Oil benefit :
  1. Help skin to naturally control it’s oil secretions
  2. Applying coconut oil right after shower help skins quickly restore pH level to 5.5 without blocking pores
  3. Contains of vitamin A, B, E and phosphorus, calcium, iron, manganese and magnesium
  4. Rich source of omega 3, 6, 9 and polyphenols.
  5. Great for skin disorders (acne, psoriasis and eczema)
  6. Prevent hair loss
  7. Help to reduce protein loss in hair
  8. Cooling effect when applied on head and scalp
  9. High in moisture retaining
  10. Great as hair conditioner
  11. Anti dandruff
  12. Lice protection
  13. Effective hair care for dry hair
  14. Beneficial for preventing baldness and gray hair

Lavender Essential oil (lavendula angustifolia) benefit :
  • Bug repellent
  • Relaxing
  • Calming scent helps with nervous system
  • Acne (can be use directly to the spot, undiluted)
  • Pain relief (including sore and tense muscle, muscular aches, rheumatism, sprains, backaches and lumbago)
  • Has stimulating effects for urine production
  • Helps with respiratory disorders
  • Hair loss treatment
  • Improving blood circulation
  • Stimulates the production of gastric juice and bile, thus aiding in treatment of indigestion, stomach pain, colic, flatulence, vomiting and diarrhea
  • Regular use of lavender essential oil provides resistance to variety of diseases.
  • Antibacterial, Antiseptic and Antifungal properties

Body oil is easy to make, no other chemical needed. Just mix carrier oil of your favorite with several drops of essential oil of your need in a bottle and shake! Super easy and very economic. It’s doesn’t even needed to use organic carrier oil here, but it’s purely your preference.

***

Actually, after re-reading my own draft, I want to apply another layer of body oil! It really has great benefit on skin. At least when I skip applying this for a day or two, my skin is just fine. Means it really doing a good job moisturizing my skin that some forgetfulness are forgiven.

Will I repurchase in future? Maybe if price reduced, and the bottle changed.. I would consider to.
Thank you for reading and I hope that helps!

About Body Oil

Finally, i managed to get back on track. It was 2 months without internet connection to my PC, rough, i know. And sadly never enjoy to write a blog post through smart phone nor tablet. Been out for that long, the topic in my head is a bit different know. I've been fond to body oil and tried some of them (one of my review is here, haven't write another yet). But lately i found out that compared than buying the finished product, i'd get it waay cheaper if i made it my self.

pic credit to cosmopolitan UK

In this post i'll write about what i know about :

  • Body Oil Explanation and Why I Like it Better than Lotion
  • What Oil to Use and How to Make It Yourself
  • Finished Body Oil Product

But please do remind that i'm no expert. I just someone who loves and get curious about body oil. Let's learn together!

Body Oil Explanation and Why I Like it Better than Lotion
Body Oil named by it's function to be use on body. Yes, as simple as that. Usually people freaked out about the idea of using oil on skin, especially for those who has normal to oily skin. But don't. I have normal body skin type, with some dry part here and there. I wouldn't lie and said it's not greasy at all, because it is at first few seconds but that's it. However, it's also different according to what oil you use, and the trick.

Before i ever tried body oil, i wouldn't believe this oils would do any good on my skin. I used to be convinced to a blog post telling how cooking oil (in that article, Grapeseed oil) is good for skin. Being curious, i bought a 500 ml bottle and apply it to my skin the night after. All i got was greasy greasy greasy and i hate it. Now, Grapeseed oil is one of my most favorite for skin.

The secret of applying body oil, is to apply it on a wet skin. That is why it's better applied right after bath. Or simply it can be mix with water on your palm before application. See the magic happens!

My main reason to use body oil more than lotion is because lotion oftenly packed with some amount of chemical while Body Oil (specially DIY's) is not. We put a huge amount of thing on our skin on daily basis, and this is one simple way to reduce it. Still not convinced? Here's my other reason :

  1. Oils lock in moisture and stay longer on skin than lotion or butter does. Oils protect the skin's lipid barrier and great for preventing moisture from evaporating from the skin.
  2. It's waaay cheaper than lotion (for DIY). For body, truthfully, we doesn't need special processed oil. Basically cooking grade oil would do the job wonderfully.
  3. Easy to Customize. You need calming body oil? Add lavender essential oil. Hormon balancer? Geranium is nice, but theres a lot of option out there. Stretch mark? try patchouli and some others. These added essential oil are not just good for skin, so it's an investment to have some of them too.

However, yes, being oil it's not easy to carry on. But as i said, it's stay longer than lotion does so it's a little chance you'd need it while you're hanging out. As for travelling, there's another DIY option like lotion and balm. But as far as my travelling goes, there's no problem for me to carry my body oil bottle. Just remember to keep the cap tight.

Don't get me wrong, i still use lotions and butters but less often than Body Oil.

What Oil to Use and How to Make It Yourself
By my experience, here's some oils oftenly used as body oil's base :
Jojoba Oil (SPF 4)
Sweet Almond Oil (SPF 5)
Coconut Oil (SPF 2-8)
Soja Oil
Rice Bran Oil
Olive Oil (SPF 2-8)
Sunflower Oil
.. in my opinion, basically any carrier oil can be use as base for body oil. Most of natural oils are easily absorbed and won't clog pores. The most highly rated on comedogenic is Wheat Germ Oil (SPF 20). I personally avoid it because my skin is easily clog. But some people doesn't affected by this and love WGO so much.

My current favorite are Grapeseed and Rice Bran oil. Sometimes i mixed Olive Oil in too. All i use are cooking/food grade because they're easy to find, cheaper, and works the same.

The problem i'm facing the most in my body are stretch mark and dry spot. But i love Grapeseed oil so much because it's so light and easy to absorb. I used to try using Grapeseed oil alone but it's not moisturizing enough for my dry spots. So here's what i do :

  1. Fill the bottle with Grapeseed oil, leave spot for a tablespoon or two. Plastic bottle is nice to use here, because carrier oil could get along with plastic bottle nicely.
  2. Add 1-2 tablespoon of Rice Bran or Olive Oil (because i want it to be light).
  3. Add 2% essential oil of choice. 20 drops of essential oil equals to 1 ml. For 100ml carrier oil, you can add 2 ml (40 drops) of essential oil.
  4. Shake the bottle, and you're done.

Personally, i chose using Essential Oil instead of fragrant oil even it's more expensive is because i am looking for more benefit from the essential oil. As i said above, Body Oil can be customize for your need. I use patchouli and geranium and lavender (yes, 3 of them) mixed for all the calming, hormon balancing and stretch mark fixing. The smell is good in my opinion.

Unlike face's skin, body are much less sensitive so yeah if you like fragrant oil, go ahead. I might get some in future too.

Price wise, for 100ml of DIY body oil using cooking/food grade oil, i paid less than IDR 50,000. Time spent to made it is less than 5 minutes.

That's my way of doing it, but if you're much simpler person, single carrier oil would do the job too! Doesn't it amazing?

Finished Body Oil Product
If tried several finished body oil product and by far, i love most of them. Each has unique characteristic i learned to make better Body Oil for my self, *LOL.

Here's some i've tried :
The Body Shop Brazil Nut Beautifying Oil.
Moisturizing but i need to apply it carefully. The scent is too extravagant for my nose.

The Body Shop Moringa Beautifying Oil.
Smells so good! I applied it everywhere, skin and hair and i love it!

The Body Shop Olive Beautifying Oil (reviewed here)
Refreshing and moisturizing. I might get another bottle of it once it's on sale.

Gulaco Body Oil, old version (Indonesian local product)
Nice but lack on something i don't know how to describe.

The Soap Corner Body Oil (Indonesian local product)
Lock in moisture but take a while to absorb. Smells good.

Utama Spice Lavender Body Oil (Indonesian local product)
Wonderfull smell, very spa-y. Take a while to absorb and the dropper is bad.

Body oil is not an entirely new product. Many local brand has them, but if you wanna get some in store, the easier to get is The Body Shop. Followed closely with Utama Spice (Guardian and Century pharmacy supposed to have it). The price is depend on what oil they use.

Some brand like Neutrogena and Vaseline has body oil too. I can't wait for them to make an appearance in Indonesia!

Have you tried body oil?

Natur Hair Serum Protecting Treatment, Indonesia Local Brand

First Impression

It just nourishing.

I am a Natur fan for kinda long, more story coming soon!

ps. maaf yaa kalau pic nya agak kurang oke.. entah kenapa nampaknya kamera sedang ngambek sedikit. Kapan-kapan aku update fotonya kalau beliau sudah ngga ngambek *fiuh*

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

I rarely wear foundation nor BB cream these days, but when I do, I always use brush for application. One of my favorite is Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. It’s kinda affordable, easy to find, does its job well and easy to clean.
.. and I think I’ve wrote down everything, LOL.

The box is transparent and made from plastic. Some might prefer to use it for travelling, but I don’t.

I agree that is ultra firm, but some other foundation brushes are broader. Application as easy as 1-2-3, but if you're not careful, you might ended up with some brush stroke. Just fix it using this brush or make up sponge.

Expert face brush has orange handle means it supposed to use for base product.

Actual brush is kinda small, the shape and size is between paddle-shaped foundation brush and flat top brush. Because of its shape, it’s easy to apply at nose’ edge, eye’s corner and so on. Do your maneuver, girl!

Like most of Real Technique brushes, it has flat bottom so it can stand up alone. I personally seldom use this feature, but some of you might like it.

Is it just for foundation application? NO.
It can be use for any liquid base, cream blush and bronzer, and if needed, can be use for loose or pressed powder. Don’t make company’s suggestion your limit. Use it where you think and feel it might fit.

PRO
Affordable
Locally available, in expensive price. I will always prefer online shop for make up buys.
Functional
Easy to clean
Leave just few brush stroke, easy to fix.
Synthetic. I just don’t like natural’s.
Not shedding.

CONS
Real techniques logo in it’s handle fade after a while (please note that mine is original)

I am still loving my Sigma kabuki brush for foundation, but Real Techniques Expert Face Brush is a great alternative with affordable price.
Hope that helps :)

Himalaya Purifying Neem Foaming Facial Wash

I’m so thankful that for Himalaya Herbal to be available in Indonesia. They have my favorite face cleanser from Nimba (neem / turmeric) range. It’s aimed to prevent acne, but not just that, it’s also free from Paraben, SLS/SLES, and Phtalates. I am not 100% avoiding parabens but I’m happy for another paraben-free product. As long as it doesn’t contain more threatening ingredient, of course.

I currently using Himalaya Purifying Neem Foaming Facial Wash, one of my favorite from range. However, I think people with normal to dry skin wouldn’t like it since it’s tend to drying skin. Sometimes, when my skin went drier due to season change, I’d stop using this and move into another cleanser. But if you constantly have oily skin, like I used to be, I’d be happy to stick with it.

foaming pump

liquid green product inside

Liquid green product is packaged in plastic bottle with foaming pump. Contains of 150ml product, it’s retailed for around idr. 35,000. Pretty cheap, eh? And it’s locally available! Horay!

pumped out

The best way to washing face is to foam it first using your palm. But with foaming face wash, you can use it directly to your face. Talking about practicality?

I’ve been using this for about 8 month and have facing no problem. I think it’s really help me with my acne problem, making me have less-oily skin and cleanse well. If you have same problem with me, I totally recommend this.

Thanks for reading, hope it does help you! :)

Sulwhasoo Clarifying Mask and Overnight Vitalizing Mask

I rarely use any mask this days, mostly because I’m too lazy for whole process. I hate to go washing my face just for back and wash my face again. But it turns that Sulwhasoo got a hype for their Clarifying and Overnight Vitalizing Mask which i think would be amazing for my skin condition. And by that, here’s my skin condition :
  • Occasional break out
  • Normal-oily on most part, but crazily dry on eyes area.
  • Acne scars (red mark, bumpy skin)
  • Redness
  • Large pores

I bought both product on sample size (largely available on ebay, amazon, tester korea, qoo10, Korean depart, etc) because at first, I’m not sure where I’m jump into and full size product would hurt my wallet badly.

Sulwhasoo Clarifying Mask, 50 ml size (full size is 150 ml)
Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalizing Mask 30 ml (full size is 120 ml)

Both are in plastic tube that really looks like full size product. While Overnight Vitalizing Mask 100% like full size tube, Clarifying Mask in sample size is a tad different. Make sure you get the original one.

What Sulwhasoo Clarifying Mask claims to :
  • This unique honey-textured treatment is formulated with Solomonseal Powder to absorb impurities
  • Japanese Honeysuckle hydrates, smooths, and brightens
  • Powerful blend of Korean medicinal herbs exfoliates and purifies for a clearer complexion

What Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalizing Mask claim to :
  • Walnut extract creates an essential moisture layer on the skin, promoting optimal absorption of nourishing ingredients
  • White mulberry extract minimizes redness and irritation
  • Hyaluronic Acid promotes long-term hydration, restoring and revitalizing skin overnight

The Beauty Wolf has stated that how her skin get much better with these two use in a row. Basically, you do double cleansing, put moisturizer, continued with Clarifying Mask, let it stay for 30 minutes then peel the mask off. After that, apply Overnight Vitalizing Mask. According to the website, both are meant to use at night time.

product fresh from tube

spreaded

As I stated, Clarifying Mask is peel-off mask.
The one that you put in your face, let it dry and peel them off. I saw many girls successfully peel the whole piece all together, but it never happen to me. That’s still okay though, you get no score by that, ha! *sorry for my competitive self*

Before application, do your usual skincare basic with toner and moisturizer. Wait them to dry first, then continue. When applying, make sure you put lots enough. Too thin application makes it hard to peel but thicker application means more product to use. Told ya it’s not cheap, and using more doesn’t mean you’d get better result.

Like any other sulwhasoo products I’ve tried, it has Sulwhasoo’s trademark herbal scent. I love this scent, found it enjoyable and relaxing (I even think it smells like Satay sauce the first time). If you don’t like it, then it might bother you the whole time because it’s stay long.

The texture is much like thick Honey. It is thick and kinda fast drying. I suggest to apply it fast, using no more than 2 fingers because it would stick.

While peeling of, try to peel from your forehead, down to your jaw. It suppose to make sure it does picking your pores problem. As opposite, after cleaning up, massage your face downside up.

ready to peel..
peeled off
Result after application :
  • Right after application, my skin just feel okay. My pores seems kinda smaller and I’m paler by application stage. Nothing marvelous.
  • The next morning (whether using Overnight Treatment Mask after or another product, usually moisturizer) my skin seems GREAT. My pores sink, my skin seems brighter and my acne scar less, much less scary. The effect last 2-3 days.

Have I told you this product is my new holy grail? No? IT IS!

Overnight Vitalizing Mask, in the other hand, is a creamy sleeping mask.
The kind that you put after all skincare regime to seal, and left it for a whole night long. My tour guide in Korea told me it was invented for lazy Korean. But some said, it just another name for night cream. Whatever.

Normally, I’d use Overnight Vitalizing Mask with Clarifying Mask. I use it in several ways :
  • First, in eye area before Clarifying Mask, after toner, moisturizer and eye cream. So it’s like adding extra moisturizer to eye area. In other parts, I put it after peeling off my Clarifying Mask and left it til the next morning.
  • Second, in some confuse days, it added after Paula Choice 2% BHA Liquid (or Clear Regular/Strength Exfoliant, whichever you prefer to). I’d wait for 20-30 minutes til my BHA “works” then add Overnight Vitalizing Mask. Actually, I think it’s unnecessary in normal days, but in drier days, I prefer this way.

Please note that Overnight Vitalizing Mask is HEAVY. The cream took time to sink in, and feels heavy on skin *its heavy heavy on my normal-oily skin* and suggested to use only twice a week. It has Sulwhasoo’s trademark scent but less offensive than Clarifying Mask.

At first, I think it’s a cheaper option for my expensive Ginzeng Renewing Cream (haven’t write about that, sorry!) but hell, no. Ginzeng Renewing Cream is much better. It can be use anytime, any place, with better result and less allergic problem. My skin literally glowy and seems healthy with Ginseng Renewing Cream. Perhaps because it’s reNEWing while the other is VITALIZING.

Here I’m not doing Sulwhasoo’s suggested way of applying mask (which include some mandatory massage and a lot of circling) because my skin hate to be touch. It’s went angry red and itchy. I just applied it like moisturizer and that’s it.

Result after application :
Well moisturized. Better result achieved if used together with Clarifying Mask. No extra glow here, and pain in face if applied wrongly.

It’s not a holy grail, and I don’t think I’d ever repurchase til I missed it.

Do you have some suggestion for me, which other sulwhasoo does amazing job? I already tried Herbclinic too (not really great) and Harmonizen (burning my face) and their basic toner and moisturizer. Oh and First Treatment Essence too (good but not extra ordinary).

Thank you for reading, hope my post help you to decide ^___^

ps. if you need ingredient list, please go ahead to Sulwhasoo's official website. I am refering to us.sulwhasoo.com here because it's simple and done in English :)

pps. if you're wondering why i dont put Overnight Vitalizing Mask's result up there, because i can't wait whole night long with mask in my hand LOL. And no, no just wake up picture for blog. Thank you!
